Installing Course Software on Your Personal Macintosh
We will use several different software tools during the semester. Wheaton owns a license for these programs, and all of the Macintosh programs are available through the campus network on the AC Software Server.
- Stella is located in the Math/Statistics folder
- PageSpinner and Fetch are located in the Internet Tools folder
- Excel is part of Microsoft Office and is in the Microsoft Office folder
For information on downloading software, see the ResNet page on Accessing AC Software server. If you have not run keyed software on your machine before, you will also need to see the ResNet page for Using Keyed Software.
During the Wednesday labs we will be working on WindowsNT machines in the new CS Lab using additional software.
- Arachnophilia as the html editor for Windows95 and WindowsNT. This is a very nice editor that is neither shareware nor freeware, but is careware. This is a very interesting idea that you should read about. You can download Arachnophilia for your own Windows machine from the Arachnophilia Homepage.
- Peer Web Server is a WindowsNT program that allows your individual machine to serve web documents to the entire world. We'll spend several labs looking at the implications.
- We will also use Excel during several of the labs.
